Clear Powder Coating for Automobiles

For years people worked hard polishing their cars to restore their showroom shine, today many automobiles benefit from a finishing process, which helps them retain their showroom shine long after they?ve been driven off the lot. Powder clear coats are a colorless finish that is applied to protect the car's color coating. Unlike the clear coats used in the past, powder clear coats are solvent-free, recyclable and require no chemical treatment for waste created during the spray process.

The powder clear coat is applied much in the same way as powder coating. The clear coat is spray on using an electrostatic spray gun. The powder adheres to the grounded body, contributing to a consistent coating thickness free of drips, runs, or blemishes, which can occur with liquid clear coats. The body parts are then cured in a combination of infrared and convection ovens, which melt the powder particles fusing them to the car body. This clear powder coat finish is more durable, last longer, protects better, and will look better longer than the conventional liquid clear coat.

The first two automakers to use the clear powder top coating were BMW and Volvo. They initially switched from liquid paint to the dry powders because of tighten environmental waste controls. Powder topcoats not only preserve the car's finish but also the environment.

If you want to know if your automobile has a tough powder topcoat finish, then ask your dealer.
